Recommendations:

Visitors in town? Need some Inspiration?

  • A Klong Trip

Klong Tan Canal runs parallel to Phetchaburi road between the Mall on Ramkamheng to Pratunam, where a change in boat will take you onto the San Saep Canal, past Jim Thompsons House to the end of the line at Wat Sakeow (aka the Golden Mount Monument) which is well worth a visit. Walk around the outside up to the viewing platform at the top for a view of the local surroundings. Ann

  • Suan Lum Night Bazaar - (Corner of Rama 4 and Wireless Road)

A fun shopping place in the relative cool of the evening or get there before 4pm and watch the Thai Boxing training. The Joe Louis Puppet Theatre and museum are also well worth a look. Plus there's a good range of seafood in the central food square, plusl a large selection of local and imported beers. Simon

  • Lebua State Tower

Siroccos restaurant on the top of the Lebua State tower affords a spectacular view of the city but can be pricey and needs a reservation. The Sky Bar right next to the restaurant is open to all (dress-code applies - full length trousers for men, smart for women and no flip-flops) and you wont need to book.

  • The Sky Bar
Expensive but worth it! Just stop in for 1 drink. Spectacular! Right next to Scirroco's (see above) no need to pre-book, dress code applies.

  • Jim Thompson’s House - nearest sky-train National Stadium
  • Pratunam
  • Baiyoke Sky Tower
  • Chatuchak Weekend Market

Gorgeous western-style old wooden teak house, once the home of Jim Thompson, famous for his revival of the silk trade and subsequent mysterious disappearance in the 1960's, his house is very much as he left it. Follow a tour of the house by lunch in their v. nice restaurant - turn left as you exit, walk 100 yards along the klong to the right and then catch a klong boat to Pratunam (infamous for it's market) take a tuk-tuk to the Baiyoke tower for a revolving sky-rise view of  Bangkok and a cocktail. Then if it's a weekend and your guests don't look nearly exhausted enough, take a taxi ride to Chatuchak weekend market, a must see for anyone lucky enough to be in Bangkok over a weekend. Becky

  • The Oriental Hotel - Perfect for Afternoon Tea.
  • Chao Praya River Trip
Take a local river boat along the Chao Praya River from Sathorn Taksin, head to the right for:- lunch at the Oriental (N1), a look around China Town (Tha Ratchawongse N5), the Flower Market (Tha Memorial Bridge - Saphan Phut N6), Wat Po or Wat Arun (Tha Tien - N8), the Grand Palace (Tha Chang N9) or Khoa San (Pra Arthit - N13).

  • Food Loft

Have lunch at the Food Loft, Central Chidlom - Fantastic selection of food choices, cooked fresh to order. Comfortable, chic, great service and if you get there early grab a seat by the window for a spectacular view!
