Future Light Children's Home

WelcomeFuture Light Children’s home is located in Tak province in the Northwest of Thailand approx 450km from Bangkok. The house currently homes 39 children, from all over Myanmar (Burma).
The children are from all different backgrounds, from broken homes, abusive step parents and poverty stricken households to being parentless and passed from person to person before they were brought to us.
16332_158635247897_503157897_2936643_531324_n.jpgThe home was started in 2006, taking in some children who were begging underneath the friendship bridge in Mae Sot. Ita and Goin became the house parents and from there the house grew. In November 2008 Natasha Whiting and Jenifer Lo took over the running of the home and have since started making bigger brighter plans for the future of the home and the children.

Since then the home has grown, and moved from place to place. The current location is a large stretch of land near the river; a wonderful large wooden house was built for the kids last year. The land has now 25 vegetable patches and a pigsty with 3 pigs, loads of chickens.

The house runs on approx 30,000 Thai Baht per month. This includes over 400Kilos of rice, 4 barrels of oil and 20Kg of fish oil per month. The kids are fed 3 times a day, which means 114 meals per day just for the children; 798 per week. They eat a pretty well balanced diet, but on such a strict budget it is hard to get enough vitamins and nutrients in every meal.

Each child loves to learn and they all do very well in the school. They take pride in keeping their uniforms clean and ready for the next day at school.

These children have all gone through so much in their short lives. Now they are happy and well looked after, and eager to learn and experience new things. And with your help they can have a brighter happier future than the beginnings they have had.

2010 News…from Natasha Whiting
In January we were robbed of a motorbike and 2 mobile phones. This was a huge setback as we couldn't have them out there with any motorbike, so for a week Goin and his friends went into Burma everyday and looked around to see if they could find their bike. But no, so we got a new bike, which is now kept under lock and chain!

In February we started to redo all the floors of the house, as they were made from Bamboo and weren't going to last long. So with the help of a 12 strong team of volunteers we got that done over a week and now have some STUNNING wooden floors which are much cleaner and easier to take care of than bamboo.

And now March has come around, and things are going well. The children's summer holidays are coming up. Which means 2 and a half months they will be at home, so we are planning lots of fun activities for them, arts crafts and making things to sell to raise money for them.

We are also in dire need of an improved drainage system under the house to prevent flooding in the forthcoming rainy season and to prevent spread of diseases. We have been quoted 20,000 baht for the work to be carried out and we hope to complete this before the rains come down.

We still need more volunteers, especially over the next few months when the children are off school.

DONATIONS:
We are always in need of funds. Jen and I do not get paid for their work with Future Light. We do everything voluntary to make sure the children get as much money as needed.

Donations we receive go directly to: Food and Water, Toiletries (soap, shampoo), Baby supplies, (nappies and Milk), Electricity and Water, Hospital trip and Medicines.

Also we need donations towards the upkeep of the house. We have 45 people living in this house and it is always in need of fixing here and there and our next big project is to redo the walls, as now they are made of flimsy materials which need replacing very regularly.

pdate August 2010

Back in January the St George's Society made a donation of 10,000 THB to Future Light Children’s home and below is an update on their wonderful progress to make a more safe and comfortable home for these needy children in Mae Sot.

We hope to be able to continue to help Future Light and other charities in the future…all of which cannot happen without the support of our members and guests who support our events and help to raise money.

Message from Future Light Children’s Home….

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you well.

I feel I must send you an update, As We are doing so well.

In May, Jen and a crew of willing volunteers came up to Mae Sot and finished off the house, which was not a simple task.. It involved ripping down all the walls inside and out, and replacing them with beautiful timber. The house is now, PERFECT. The bedrooms are cleaner, and tidier and most importantly the whole house is SAFE.
THANK YOU to those who made it happen, both with helping and donating.

We are currently redoing the Homeschool, Which was in such a state. It has now been knocked down, and the strong men are redoing the foundation, and in about one Month we will see the finished building.

Things have gone from good to great.. But there is always that need for money to keep the home going. For food and toiletries, Rent and water.

I have compiled a list with the houseparents of things that we are going to be needing in the near Future.
If you think you can help out with any of these things, Please contact myself or Jen.

- Sugar, Salt, Herbs and Spices, Turmeric is their main spice.
- Toiletries- Soap, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Toothbrushes
